Reaching for the stars together

At Dark Emu Foundation, we believe in reaching children who might otherwise miss out on opportunities. Our programs are designed to bring STEM, science, aviation, space, introspection, entrepreneurship and the performing arts to regional and remote communities. Join us as we spark curiosity and build confidence in overlooked places, showing every child that their dreams are within reach.

Our unique approach

We go where others don't, igniting a passion for STEM, aviation, space, and performing arts in children from regional and remote communities. Unlike mainstream programs, we focus on fostering curiosity and confidence in areas that are often overlooked. We strive to make every child's dream of launching rockets or shining under the stage lights a tangible reality.

Success stories

  • Circa Gimuy completed a government-funded, term-long engagement with First Nations Homeschool and the combined FNQ Homeschool community in early 2025.
  • They then ran a two-day workshop in Cairns for our homeschoolers, featuring all of their performers at the Cairns Performing Arts Centre in the lead-up to their stage performances of 'Duck Pond', Circa's take on Swan Lake.
  • Harbrow Mentoring in association with AFL Hawthorn Hawks Women's Team to deliver their Resilience Program, developing leadership and emotional intelligence to the homeschool community.
  • AVISTA National Science Roadshow presented a day of stunning science & wonder for our community. Thanks to Trinity Anglican School & Illuminate FNQ for hosting our children for this event.
  • Illuminate FNQ & NASSI (The Native Academy of Space, Science & Innovation) conducted a two-day intensive workshop, inviting our homeschoolers and students from remote regions of Queensland to partake in hands-on Flight Simulation, private tours of Cairns Airport, JCU Turtle Hospital & Marine Biology Unit, and presentations by Geoscientists & real-life US Astronauts!

A word from one of our deadly mentors

Meet Ngioka Bunda-Heath, a Wakka Wakka, Ngugi, Birrpai Woman, and the first Aboriginal woman to graduate from the Victorian College of the Arts in Dance. Ngioka engaged with First Nations and combined Homeschool Communities across FNQ with Circa Gimuy.

"I'm inspired by my Elders, Ancestors and the young people coming through. They remind me that our stories are living and evolving. I hope to inspire the next generation of First Nations artists to take pride in their identity, to stand strong in who they are, and to continue telling our stories in their own powerful ways." - Ngioka Bunda-Heath

"The Dark Emu Foundation has opened doors I never knew existed. It's incredible to see the confidence and skills our kids are gaining."
